Thanks to everyone at Sharp Edges. It was a Great 3 days of training. It gave me the confidence I need to move forward with my business.

My experience was excellent. When I got back home and used my equipment, I felt very comfortable with it and with what I was doing. Thanks.

Your education was right on and really needs no changing. It was more than I expected. Sharp Edges in my eyes is truly a 5 star business.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, your family and staff for taking time out of your busy
schedule to show me your business and how it operates. I appreciate the time you took to answer
all my questions regarding your business and all it has to offer.

In this day and age, it is hard to find genuine people and businesses. While I was only there a short
time, I felt the warmth on the phone and in person coming from you and your staff. It is no wonder why
your business is so successful.

I'd like to apologize for the procrastination on my behalf. I should have written this letter about 10 months ago. I'd like to first of all thank Larry for being such a professional. His methods of teaching made it easy for me to quickly understand what was what very quickly. He is a very knowledgeable teacher. This was important since we were limited with time that day. I was a little nervous in that I didn't want to make any mistakes but Larry has a way of calming the environment, making the learning part go smoothly. I've learned a world of information since then and gained a lot of experience in a small amount of time, because of the people I knew in the industry and the demand for a qualified shear sharpener, this whole experience has been a pleasure. With a background in construction, building things from sticks, and the responsibility for making important decisions, the whole craft has interested me and calls me to learn more. A true professional Larry and his crew are and he is a great teacher. Then I'd like to thank the rest of your staff in the office who were all gracious and polite. I remember Linda offering me a piece of pumpkin pie. I hope this new year brings happiness to your family and hope to see you all this year at the certifications. I'm looking forward to it.

Really enjoyed the training with Dennis and meeting everyone at Sharp Edges, what a great group. The sharpening was the easy part, its the getting your foot in the door that's tough.

The only thing I myself can think of is more emphasis on, this is what we do, this is why we do it, this is what happens when we do this, this is our end result. I think my experience was a great one. Thank you very much.

Emphasis on why & what (Beauty Shears Only) I have now went thru my packet. There was a phenomenal amount of information in it. All of high quality information.

What can I say but the trip was well worth it. Larry's methodical approach was even able to get through jet lag.

I was very very satisfied with all aspects of the training. I have gained new friends with the staff and management at Sharp Edges.

Possibly on the last day of training, have trainee sharpen or repair one each of every thing covered previous. If time permitting touch on weak points.

It would be very helpful to receive the information packet, DVD and book prior to training. The cheat sheets are very helpful.

Larry introduced me to other sharpening alternatives - clipper blades, knives, setup the van for mobile sharpening. All very useful and informative.

I think a lot was covered for 1 day of training, so maybe 2 days with first being basic knowledge followed up by the next day of nothing but troubleshooting.

Larry is an excellent instructor, taking time and patience and being very detailed helped me a lot. I have never done this type of mechanical work and Larry made me feel with practice I would be able to do it. The voice on the video was not real clear. I enjoyed Larry and his family very much, they have a very professional and friendly operation. ONLY wished they were closer to Michigan. The family operation of your type of business makes it unique and comfortable for a beginner as myself. I can see in years to come that Delaney will also be a part of this operation (she is a delight).

Larry, from the bottom of my heart a sincere thank you for your time, patience and knowledge in making me a sharpener. Glen and I are determined to make a go of this business. We have taken all of this information home with us and with practice I know in years to come we will also have a successful business.

Linda, Tonya and Dennis are a real plus to your front office and made me feel like a friend.

Just wanted to say what a nice job you did handling the certification at the N.S.S.G. in New Jersey.

Not only was I thrilled with certifying at the Master level, but I felt confident that everything was handled correctly with the certification, including having everyone in the same room, all scissors being damaged the same way, and the overall judging. An excellent process.

You are well respected in the industry and I hope you continue to be involved with the N.S.S.G. in the future.

Diamond Edge Sharpening

I would like to ThankYou for sharing in our wonderful experience at the National Shear Sharpeners Guild Convention & Trade show held here in Las Vegas Nevada, November of 2004.

My name is Charlie Compton and I recently found myself exploring the idea of changing careerers(which became necessary) and since my wife and I owned a Dog Grooming shop already, sharpening just seemed to make sense, and there was a need.So I started to inquire about the equipment I needed to sharpen clipper blades and scissors for my wife,coworkers & others. I really seemed to take to it(and I had A pretty tough critic, my wife). The next steps just seemed to fall into place, buying the equipment and learning to do beauty shears. I looked into all the machines and schools that were available. I spent alot of time on researching the pros and cons on all aspects and I seemed to keep coming back to the Advanced Hamaguri Machine by Larry Brooks.

Larry and Linda's web pages were a world of information for me. I really liked and agreed with what I read.(they were how I found out about the N.S.S.G convention & what luck it was going to be held here in Las Vegas!).I had called and talked to several members and sellers that were going to be here and though I could get a closer look at and possibly purchase the machine I seemed to keep coming back to the Advanced Hamaguri Machine. I called Sharp Edges to find out if they would be attending, that was when I talked ti Linda, I really appreciated her patience and kindness with me on the phone. Finally the weekend arrived,I was really looking forward to meeting Larry & Linda Brooks.

My wife and I showed up not knowing what to expect,we came to buy a machine then hope I took as well to this as I had with the other. I was hoping to learn something more on convexing shears because at this point I only had what I had been able to read about convexing. When we arrived I signed up for the works. the workshops,trade show & certification competition. Then we began mingling with other sharpeners who were attending and started thinking that maybe i shouldnt have entered the competition (how could I do this?I didnt know about the convex).

I asked if the Brooks had arrived yet? then someone pointed Larry & Linda out to me.I was nervous about meeting the,but excited. I introduced myself, they invited me to sit with them, the next thing I know I'm confessing to them my lack of hands on knowledge and how I had entered the competition for certification and was now wondering if I should ask for my money back etc...

I had already decided I was going to buy Larry's Advanced Hamaguri Machine before we got there and that is what I had originally sat down to do was to let Larry know I wanted to purchase the machine he had with him.

I must confess all the events that came next were straight out of a Fairy Tale.

Larry, being the kind of man that he is, must have seen the desperate need in me for knowledge and through the kindness of a true teachers heart, he shared his knowledge with me, a man he just met.

It was already getting late in friday night when Larry took me under his wing and gave me my first pair of convex shears and a 3 1/2 hour crash course on convexing shears, instead of enjoying the sights of Las Vegas Larry took his time to give me a chance in the competition. In the back of your mind you think "it would be great to get certified" but on the outside you accept that the experience alone would be exciting and the critique helpful to improve my skills. With Larry's instruction that night I gained enough confidence not to back out of the competition.

SATURDAY DAY 2:I went to the workshops and took notes like crazy, it was a very intense day. then it was time for the competition, I took my bag of shears and my notes( Thank You Larry)and followed Larry's instructions and did my best, when I was satisfied that my scissors cut and time was running out I turned in my bag and went home.

DAY THREE: Trade Show & competition results. I had no idea how I had done, this was my first time. Bambi my wife and I browsed the tables and waited for results, finally the time had arrived, first they called the numbers of bags who did not get there certification and mine was not there(could it be I got Certified?)they started calling the rest of the numbers but not mine,finally my number was called and I realized I was in the top three, I asked the judge if I had Came in third & he said no you came in second.

My only reply was Larry Brooks & the Advanced Hamaguri Machine. A few hours with Larry & his Machine and I placed Second in th National Shear Sharpeners Guild certification competition.Which I am now a Proud member of.
