Letters of Recommendation Page 4 To whom it may concern; My name is Jim Christensen, I live in Orem, Utah and have wanted to get into the sharpening business for quite some time. In January of 2002 I lost my full time job in a steel plant in Utah because of foreign steel imports being illegally dumped into the U.S.A. from other countries. Because of this I was eligible for retraining from the government through T.A.A.. I Knew of several people and companies that taught sharpening, I knew Larry Brooks was a master sharpener still practicing sharpening and felt Larry was one of the best sharpeners in our country if not the best so I called Larry Brooks and asked Larry if he would train me in the field of sharpening. Larry agreed to train me. At this point I applied for my retraining to go into the sharpening field. I tried to convince my counselors that sharpening was a legitimate trade. My counselors for T.A.A. felt I should go into more conventional fields at local colleges. I keep presenting my business plan to them and explaining to them that this was the field I wanted to go into and felt I could make a living sharpening. Finally, after four or five months they finally gave in and OK'd my training with Larry Brooks of Sharp Edges in the field of sharpening. I would strongly recommend Larry Brooks of Sharp Edges to anyone interested in getting into the sharpening business. I learned more than I could ever explain in this letter. Larry is a wonderful teacher and teaches one on one with his students, his wife Linda helped me greatly with how the business should be run. Since completing my training with Larry Brooks I have gone on to open my own successful sharpening business in Utah (Cutting Edge Sharpening). I could not have made it in the sharpening business if I would not have trained with Larry Brooks. Jim Christensen Cutting Edge Sharpening |
