Sharp Edges 

Hello, my name is Dennis Brooks.  My wife, Tonya and I are the owners of Sharp Edges Sharpening Service.  Please take a minute to read about the history of our company.  Thank you for your interest in our company and products.  We are looking forward to working with you in the future.

Sharp Edges is a family owned and operated business that was founded in 1994.  Larry Brooks ran the business for almost a year when he realized that because of its rapid growth he desperately needed help.  His wife, Linda, joined him full-time in the business in 1995, taking over all of the office work and learning to sharpen for the animal industry.

          In 1999, Larry won the prestigious recognition of becoming a member of the National Shear Sharpeners Guild (N.S.S.G.) and a Master Sharpener!  The year 1999 proved to be a very busy year for Larry.  He started being called upon to demonstrate some of his sharpening techniques at sharpening seminars.  He attended and gave sharpening and equipment demonstrations at seminars for Huffs Wholesale, Sharpener’s Report, and Wolff Industry™ in several areas of the United States including Missouri, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Virginia.  In 2000, Larry also traveled to Kentucky, Virginia, and Nevada for seminars for Wolff Industry™, Sharpfest, and the N.S.S.G. 

Dennis Brooks, their son, joined the team in 1997 and learned to repair clippers.  In 1998, Dennis took over the Industrial Division of Sharp Edges and also some of Larry’s mobile routes.  All of the help from Dennis took a tremendous workload off of Larry.  This also allowed Larry to devote more time to the Barber and Beauty Industry, to expand the Mail Order Division to include several surrounding states, and to research and develop sharpening equipment to benefit Sharp Edges and other sharpeners.  In May 2006, Dennis garnered enough points to qualify as a Guild Member at the National Shear Sharpeners Guild in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey.  In November 2006, and 2007 Dennis reaffirmed his status as a Guild Member. In 2008 Dennis recertified as a Guild Member and earned 1st place and Master Sharpener status at the N.S.S.G. Certification in Las Vegas, Nevada.

          Larry introduced the Hamaguri Sharpening System at the Wolff Industry Seminar in Richmond in October 2000. 

          Larry returned to Las Vegas several times to compete again in the National Shear Sharpener’s Guild certification placing 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place consecutively.    

          In 2000, Larry decided to start offering hands-on training programs.  These programs enlist the dos and don’ts that his vast experience has taught him.  In 2003, he became an Authorized Training Center for Wolff Industries™ to teach sharpening on the Twice as Sharp Scissor Sharpening System® and the Ookami Gold Sharpening System ®. In 2007 we became the only authorized distributor and the only training center for the Treyco Clipper Blade Sharpening System. 

          In March 2003, Sharp Edges moved into our new office and training facility. You may visit Sharp Edges website at, www.sharpedgesinil.com.  Larry & Dennis now have an extensive list of satisfied trainees, as well as many successful Hamaguri owners. 

          In October 2007 Matthew Brooks joined his father Dennis and his grandfather Larry in the wonderful world of sharpening. Matthew sharpens the majority of the clipper blades that come into the shop.  In 2009 Matthew participated in the clipper blade sharpening certification at the 1st NBTSG (National Beauty Tool Sharpeners Guild) (www.nbtsg.com)  He scored high enough to be recognized as a NBTSG Guild Member.  In 2010 he again participated in the NBTSG certification process ranking 1st and earning his Master Sharpener status in clipper blade sharpening. We are the only three-generation equipment manufacture for shear sharpeners. We have a combined 38 plus years of sharpening experience.

In 2008 Larry, Linda and Dennis decided to develop the NBTSG (National Beauty Tool Sharpeners Guild).  They ran and organized this organization for 3 years.  This organization is now ran by Gene and Bonnie from Bonika Shears.  You can visit their website at www.nbtsg.com.

In April of 2012 Linda and Larry decided it was time for them to retire.  So, my wife and I took over the business.  We hope to continue with the quality of our machines, training and services, and look forward to working with you in the future.
